3. Fallon Sherrock shatters the glass ceiling.
Fallon Sherrock’s life would never look the same again after her extraordinary exploits at the 2019 edition of the PDC World Championships.
Females had been afforded the opportunity to compete alongside their male counterparts for many years previously in this competition, but on every occasion they had failed to register a single victory.
That was until this lady took it upon herself to write a new unforeseen chapter in the history of the game, becoming the first female competitor to register a victory against a man in the most prestigious setting available.
Her inspired opening round win over Ted Evetts was followed by an electric contest with the then world number eleven Mensur Suljovic in round two.
In the face of enormous pressure she nailed bullseye with her first match dart in hand, proving to herself and any doubters that her place at this table was richly deserved.
She would eventually bow out to Chris Dobey in round three, yet it was a fabulous advert for the game, as her groundbreaking performances laid waste to the notion that women cannot compete with men in elite level sports.
A new generation of young women would no doubt be inspired to believe that anything is possible, as she blazed a trail that had never been walked ever before.
I got goosebumps watching that again! Love the darts!
